Chess is a wonderful game to be enjoyed at any skill level over a lifetime.
The purpose of the St. John Chess club is to provide students with:
- A place to play chess
- A regularly scheduled time to play chess
- An opportunity to learn how to play chess
- An opportunity to practice their skills
Chess club is open to all students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Professional Instructors, along with parent volunteers, facilitate the Chess Club. Each meeting, the children are taught basic nomenclature, rules, standard chess openings, and strategy. An interactive curriculum provides students with an outlet to improve play. There is an opportunity for all skill levels, competitive play for students who want it as well as more social level of play..
Snacks are provided each week by the Chess Club, however, if your child has specific dietary needs or allergies, your child should bring his own snack.
Registration Fees are used to provide professional instruction, purchase additional chess equipment, snacks, awards and food for the year end party.
The club meets Wednesdays after school from January through March.
