Classroom Re-organization

During the summer of 2010, the primary department (grades K, 1, & 2) will move to the modular classrooms adjacent to the playground.  The 7th and 8th grades will move to the top floor of the main school building, and grades 3 through 6 will occupy the 2nd floor.

Benefits to Primary

  • Better egress for our youngest students
  • Better use of instructional time since less time is spent getting up and down stairs
  • Close to the playground.  Direct access from the deck was added last summer.
  • Kindergarten will share the largest classroom allowing opportunity for joint projects, flexible groupings in math and reading, cooperative teaching.

  • New boys and girls bathrooms (summer 2009)
  • Install attractive fencing with gate to enclose decking area (summer 2010)
  • Make necessary modification to classrooms such as shelving, cubbies, etc. (summer 2010)

Benefits to Middle School

  • By integrating our oldest students into the main school building, there will be more opportunity on a daily basis for them to behave as leaders.
  • Morning meetings in the hallway to cultivate community, allow for special recognition for sports teams, get group consensus, and make announcements.
  • Able to change classes in a warm, dry hallway rather than outside.
  • Bigger, more accessible lockers.  Room in hallways for coats, etc.  allowing students and teachers to reduce classroom clutter of backpacks, sport bags, instruments, coats, etc.
  • Reduced classroom clutter and larger space will facilitate active learning.
