upcoming projects:  Social Studies,  Iditarod Race

The class will begin a study of the Iditarod Race this month.  Each student will be making a flat musher, and if you have any material for this project could you please send it to school. We will be writing a story from the dog's point of view, journaling their daily progress, learning new vocabulary, doing math problems, map work and many other activities.

Religion:  We will focus on Lent for the months of February and March.  The students will be learning the stations of the cross, some new prayers, and doing positive tasks for others.  Hopefully, you will notice these efforts at home. They should be willing helpers.

Mrs. Kelly's  CLASS PAGE

Welcome to the Third Grade!

Homework
Students will bring home a homework planning sheet in a green folder
that will state what is expected for each night in every subject area.
Unlike the primary grades, intermediate students will be given homework
each night for the specific day.  Students will not be given a packet of
work to finish during the week. This new habit of study skills will
foster independence and responsibility as they mature in the
intermediate grades.

Special Announcements
Students need to bring in a healthy snack and water bottle each day.  Water bottles will be brought home each Friday to clean and refill.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q:  How is my child's birthday celebrated at school?

A: Students may bring a birthday book to share with the
class.  Your child may read the book and keep it on a special shelf in
the classroom.  We would like to discourage  snacks and treats, and
reinforce literacy instead.

Q:  When will my child have music and physical education days?
A: Students will have music and physical education days on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:40-2:40.

Q:  When will my child go to the library?
A:  Students will go to the library on Wednesdays from
2:30-3:00.  Mrs. Grandorf is looking for parent volunteers during
library time.  Please help your child remember to return his/her book
every Wednesday.

Q:  When will my child have Spanish?
A:  Senora Blanca will teach Spanish on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:50 - 11:20.

Q:  What is the best way to contact you (Mrs. Kelly)?
A:  I prefer email as the best mode of contact.  Please
