What beautiful weather we had for Mother's Day! I hope our 4th graders took good care of their mothers.
The school geography bee will be held this Friday, May 18thh at 1:00 in Egan Hall. Please join us if you are available!
We are preparing for our Mastery Test in Religion. The primary focuses are the Beatitudes and the Ten Commandments.
This week in Social Studies students will finish editing and writing the final copies of their Oregon Trail journals. They will then compile them all into books with beautiful covers the children have made in art class with Mrs. Desclos.
We continue to read, In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. This book is at a 4.6 reading level and some children may need some additional support at home with this reading. The book is available on CD as well and we highly recommend renting it from the library and listening to it at home as well. Pages 95-116 will be due on Wednesday, May 16th.. The focus of this unit is vocabulary acquisition, sequencing, imagery and drawing conclusions.
Biography oral reports began today and so far we are very impressed with the quality of work.
The Bodmer/Whiting math group will be plotting and graphing ordered pairs in the first coordinate plane. Many students have yet to master multi-digit multiplication. We encourage you to work on this nightly with your children as this is an essential 4th grade math standard.
Thank you for your continued support.

Headings, Conventions, and so much more...
Proper Components to Fourth Grade Assignments:
- Any assignment done on paper that is not a teacher provided worksheet needs a complete heading. A complete heading starts on the left side of the paper and includes the full name, date, and subject.
- If the directions say to write in complete sentences, the assignment needs to be written in complete sentences.
- All sentences need to begin with capital letters and end with appropriate punctuation.
- All assignments need to have the students’ first and last names on them.
- All assignments need to be written in pencil and in cursive.
- Assignments need to be on the proper paper. Any written assignments need to be completed on Zaner-Bloser paper, unless your teacher has told you otherwise.
- All parts of the directions need to be followed.
- Spelling counts as long as the words are already on the page. For example, spelling a word incorrectly on a blank when it was a choice from a word bank already on the paper is not acceptable. The student will lose at least half credit on these problems.
Reading Contracts
Each student is expected to read at home for 15 minutes daily. Any type of reading material is acceptable, and if your family reads together that counts as well! A nightly parent signature is required as verification that the reading was completed. We will collect these weekly. If all the reading is completed on time, and the students meets his/her AR goal,he/she will attend a quarterly reading party.
Weekly Folder
Homework will be sent home most Fridays in the students' Weekly Folder. Please look through the folder with your students and make sure any missing work is completed and turned in the next day. Please keep the returned work, sign the Weekly Update, and have your students return the folder the next day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do you celebrate birthdays? Can I send in snacks?
A: As a way to celebrate your child’s special day, we have created the “Wall of Fame” where students can display any art, memorabilia, pictures, stories or items that they wish to share with the class. Each student will be given the opportunity to present his or her items to the class and the items can stay up for the entire birthday month.
