Wow! What beautiful weather we have been having. We hope you all had a chance to enjoy some sun over the weekend!
W have been busy grading the wonderful social studies projects that were presented last week! We can tell that a lot of time and effort went into these and the results were fun and informative. We hope to have them all graded and returned this week.
In reading class students will continue reading The Sign of the Beaver, relating it to our study of explorers and fur traders. We will cover new vocabulary words this week for spelling homework. Please be prepared to spell and define the words on Friday.
Religion this week focuses on the Beatitudes and their meaning. The message of happiness that Jesus' shared during The Sermon on the Mount is a pillar of our Christian faith and we encourage families to take some time together to reflect on the qualities of happiness: Peacefulness, understanding, mercy, care, trust, and forgiveness. Why do you feel happy when you practice these qualities?
Last week we begin our science chapter on matter, density, volume and mass. We had a lot of fun testing the density of different liquids last week. This week we will be talking about the different states of matter. Please click here to view a home extension project to do with your children.
Please note that progress reports will go home on Thursday of this week. The science grade will be N/A since we just began the 6 week unit last week. Please be sure to sign and return one copy of the progress report by Monday, the 13th. Thanks!
We sincerely appreciate all of your ongoing support.

Headings, Conventions, and so much more...
Proper Components to Fourth Grade Assignments:
- Any assignment done on paper that is not a teacher provided worksheet needs a complete heading. A complete heading starts on the left side of the paper and includes the full name, date, and subject.
- If the directions say to write in complete sentences, the assignment needs to be written in complete sentences.
- All sentences need to begin with capital letters and end with appropriate punctuation.
- All assignments need to have the students’ first and last names on them.
- All assignments need to be written in pencil and in cursive.
- Assignments need to be on the proper paper. Any written assignments need to be completed on Zaner-Bloser paper, unless your teacher has told you otherwise.
- All parts of the directions need to be followed.
- Spelling counts as long as the words are already on the page. For example, spelling a word incorrectly on a blank when it was a choice from a word bank already on the paper is not acceptable. The student will lose at least half credit on these problems.
Reading Contracts
Each student is expected to read at home for 15 minutes daily. Any type of reading material is acceptable, and if your family reads together that counts as well! A nightly parent signature is required as verification that the reading was completed. We will collect these weekly. If all the reading is completed on time, and the students meets his/her AR goal,he/she will attend a quarterly reading party.
Weekly Folder
Homework will be sent home most Fridays in the students' Weekly Folder. Please look through the folder with your students and make sure any missing work is completed and turned in the next day. Please keep the returned work, sign the Weekly Update, and have your students return the folder the next day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do you celebrate birthdays? Can I send in snacks?
A: As a way to celebrate your child’s special day, we have created the “Wall of Fame” where students can display any art, memorabilia, pictures, stories or items that they wish to share with the class. Each student will be given the opportunity to present his or her items to the class and the items can stay up for the entire birthday month.
