Handprint Button Frame (Mrs Thomason, Kindergarten, April 2011)

Posted By: Rachel Oximana (oximana@comcast.net)

Duration: 60 minutes + prep time ahead of project

Instructions: Project Instructions, Handprint Frame.pdf

Notes: This project requires a significant amount of prep time but as you can see the result is worth it. The project materials will cost about $2 per student, so before you plan to do this you should price out your materials and consult with Mrs Desclos ahead of time about reimbursement, if needed. Depending on how much Elmer's glue the students use (and some of them are Elmer's glue happy) the frame may need a place to dry overnight. We set up many stations with the buttons in bowls for the students to glue buttons onto the frame. Then there was one station with one parent in charge of asking the student to write their name onto the white paper and helping them make their handprint. Since the white paper may not be glued immediately, you should make sure each student writes their name somewhere on the frame so you can match them up later to adhere the white paper to the frame.

I Give You My Heart Craft (Mrs Thomason, Kindergarten, Feb 2011)

Duration: 30 minutes

Instructions: I Give You My Heart Craft.pdf

Heart Template: Template, Heart Craft.pdf

Dream Catcher Craft (Mrs Thomason, Kindergarten, Jan 2011)

Posted By: Rachel Oximana (oximana@comcast.net)

Duration: 10 minutes to introduce dream catchers to the students , 30 minutes project time + prep time before project

Instructions: Make a Dream Catcher for Kids.pdf

Notes: Ahead of time, the centers of the paper plates were cut out using a circular cutter. Paper vs plastic plates work better if you would like the students to color the plates with markers, crayons, or water colors. Also ahead of time, holes were punched into the plates in the pattern needed for threading the yarn.

Elmer the Elephant Project (Mrs Thomason, Kindergarten, Jan 2011)

Posted By: Rachel Oximana (oximana@comcast.net)

Popsicle Stick Snowflake Project (Mrs Thomason, Kindergarten, Jan 2011)

Posted By: Rachel Oximana (oximana@comcast.net)

Duration: 20 minutes project time + additional prep time prior to project

Instructions (from internet): popsicle stick snowflake.pdf

Modified instructions used for this lesson:  Prior to class, we used a hot glue gun to glue together the popsicle sticks and pre-drilled holes into one stick for the hanger.  During class, the students used Elmer's glue to glue sequins and beads onto the snowflakes and tied yarn into the drilled hold to make the hanger.  The flat items such as sequins adhered much better to the popsicle sticks than the beads, so if I were to do this again I would proably use all craft sequins or other flat items. It is easier to write the student's name to the back of the snowflake prior to decorating it.  This project will need to dry overnight before it can be handled.  During the time we had, students could make up to 3 snowflakes if they had time.
